03/03/07 - Hayes Lane Ultras (Bromley) 4 Beavers FC 1

What started off so brightly for the Beavers turned ultimately into disappointment and frustration.
Playing downhill with the slope we started really well - good tackling, some slick pass and move football which saw Bromley on the back foot. A pity we didn't turn some of the posession into chances on goal but we dominated early on.
It was no surprise when we got a nailed on penalty when Lee was clipped in the box as he tried to take the man on. Lee picked himself up - just checked himself out in the mirror and calmly knocked the penalty home. 1-0 Beavers after about 10mins.
The next 20mins or so continued in much the same way but gradually Bromley began to get on top in midfield and work our defence a little more.
Our weakness seemed to be letting crosses come into the box - rather than cutting out the danger. One such attack saw a Bromley forward do amazingly to hit the ball over the bar from 2 yards out - and it was no shock to see Bromley equalise on 35mins when we missed a tackle and see a similiar ball squared across the box for a simple finish.

The game then turned on two incidents towards the end of the 1st half.
Alfie was fouled about 35 yards from goal - Lee hit the free-kick with power and hit the bar with the keeper not even close. Shortly after Danny nearly got on the end of a good ball into the area but just couldn't apply the finish.

Then just on the stroke of half-time Bromley were given a very dubious penalty. Elliott was adjudged to have pushed the Bromley player (?) and even if this was the case surely it was outside the box. Anyway the penalty was put away and so it was 1-2 at h-t.

In the second half we put in a pretty poor half of football. The tackling wasn't great - disorganised from corners - not holding the ball up front. All areas of the game to be improved upon.
Conditions were slightly against us as the wind and slope and the ref was against us but even so we should have coped better.
The 2 most disappointing aspects though were
a) the bickering amongst ourselves - we should be man enough to get on with the game and encourage each other - even if someone does make a mistake.

b) moaning at the ref continually. I know he was poor - but he isn't going to change his mind and you just have to get on with the game.

We should be coming off the pitch smiling having enjoyed the game (whatever the result) if thats not going to happen maybe we need to look at things again.

Thanks to Matt N for again making a couple of superb stops - but he did miss his chance of donning the red number 9 shirt for a spell up front.
We conceded a 3rd when a throw and a knock on was allowed to go right through the area for another tap in.
We pushed Elliott further forward alongside Danny and there was some promise in the way they linked together.
Moment of the 2nd half had to be Lee trying to get onto the end of a cross and doing a 'Hand of God' impression and coming away with a chipped nail :-)

Final goal came from them taking a short corner which we simply were not awake too. Missing the chance to clear it again Matt had no chance to save from a couple of yards out.

final score 1-4.
